So I was cruising around craigslist the other day and found a college kid that needed to sell his complete setup including a roughly 10-12" silver aro. So I couldn't resist and I bought the whole setup. So now the aro is in my 125. The tank is a 6x2x2 yes I know it's too small for when the fish is grown. I'm moving in 2 months and once I do I'm going to start looking for a minimum of a 250 and hopefully a 450 if I have enough room in the new house. My current tank is about 3 years old and fully cycled and the aro definetly seems to like having the increased swimming room from the short 56 gallon he was in (I don't see any gill curling so hopefully I moved him to a bigger tank soon enough). The fish is eating (beef heart and pellet food that came with him). I noticed an interesting behavior with the fish though. He will swim up to the short sides of the tank and gently bump the glass as if playing with his reflection. He isn't doing it with a lot of force at all and I took a close look to make sure he hasn't injured himself. So has anybody else seen this behavior? Should I get a backing for the ends of the tank to eliminate this reflection? Other than this everything else I've observed seems normal for the fish. He is a little skitish when I open the cover to feed him or walk past the tank, but so far so good and he hasn't shown any agression to his tank mates.

Congrats! Welcome to the aro club! :)

As for the bumping behaviour, if it continues or if he is forceful in doing it, you may want to look at other options, but I'd let him be for the time being.

Thats what I figured. I'm just currious if anybody else has seen this behaviour with their aros. I'll have to grab a video tomorrow, cause he moves around too much to get a decent picture. The whole action is actually rather comical. Reminds me of my bala sharks.
