I got my first arowana at Big Al's today! Its a silver, and about 4" big. He was 30 bucks, (good price?) and has orange near his gills. He's in my 75 now. I also bought more driftwood and another plants. The tank decorations are not finalized. Im going to get more plants. I will try and get some pix. I'm Happy!!

Oh yea! I bought Hikari Food Sticks, and 40 rosy reds (other fish eaters in there like yellow tail barracuda, pbass, hujeta barracuda and catfish) I havn't seen him eat any, but I was gone for an hour too.

Should I do anything special for this Aro?? What do all of you guys do to keep them happy? Do I have to train him onto dry foods or they eat what ever? Thnaks for the help!

Well congrats, your aro will trive the best with lots of water changes, 50% weekly. Once he hits 10" plus the oscar will be bigger you are looking at 50% twice a week. Better get a good summer job, your new little guy is gonna need a new tank in 6 to 9 months.

Also you no your not allowed to get a new arowana and not post pictures.

If you can get yours to eat the aro sticks, go for it... I couldn't, so I feed mine frozen shrimp, freeze dried krill and feeder fish.
Arowanas are the bees knees baby! Make sure to have a good heavy lid on the tank, keep up on the water changes and you'll be needing a new tank soon. These beasts grow quick!! I keep mine in a little pond I made out of an old clawfoot bathtub!!
Pay attention to the tank mates as well...if you have it in with the fish listed in your signature you could be in for a shredded Arowana, but you never know.
ENJOY YOUR FISH!!!

Thanks guys!

Yea I always do water changes in there. Since they're all small I could do once every week because my tank looks horrable with all the pleco crap. So I stick to once a week. Did it take anyone alot of time before there aro took sticks? I havn't tried to feed him dry foods yet. Thanks again.

Andrew, my Silver has never accepted pellets or sticks of any kind. When mine was that small, it's diet consisted of mainly freeze dried blood worms, frozen krill and very small crickets.

Would frozen krill work or is it a guess and check sort of thing?

Should work....if not try and starve him a couple days...he'll eat it for sure....Just dont starve him until he's BEEN eating for some time though.

Ok good news. I got him to eat krill. He eat two full krill's. I havn't seen him eat a feeder yet tho. I think that's good, but im not sure. lol.

Don't worry about him eating the feeders.....they'll all be gone soon enough!!:naughty: Feeding him that krill everyday isn't a bad thing I don't think... That was the majority of what I fed mine until I started with the market shrimp. It's much cheaper. My Arowana is such a picky eater he only likes one brand of krill.:irked:

lol. Thats kinda weird. He eat the krill in front of me, you think he's imbarrased to eat feeders in front of me, or he's shy, or not hungry or he's waiting or what?
