Yesterday I got a 3" Indo Datnoid! He's in my 40 QT tank right now with some pbass of similar size. His color is a little faded but I'm assuming once he settles in his stripes will become more vibrant? Unfortunately I don't have any pics yet since he's always hiding. He's either glued to the base of my sponge filter or leaning sideways next to the flower pot. Are these guys naturally skittish or will he come around?

Smaller Dats usually hide a lot (from my experiance), as for skittish I think he will settled down after a lil while!
I've got a small Dat (smaller than your indo) who use to be quite skittish but now is fine even when im doing WC's!

Cool, sounds good. Yours in your avatar is beautiful! He gave up battling my little redtail for territory under the sponge so now he hangs out in the flower pot.

Nice you'll enjoy him. Usually dats aren't too shy once they get used to you. Unfortunately theres no guarantee that he'll stable up. My LFS tells me that if you only keep 1 dat it stays stable. Not sure how true it is though

Sounds good. I'd like him to. I want him to look like your avatar. Another beauty!

I think the "keep one dat = stable" is not really true... It all depends on the dat itself, one of my dats use to be unstable 24/7, but suddenly after changing some things in the tank he went stable (there are other dats with him)...
Its just one of those things people can keep talking about but will never actually figure out what equals to stable...

Oh and you keeping him with a redtail catfish? becareful if you are! they grow soooo much more quickly than dats and will most probably swallow him whole soon !

Here he is, minding his own business in the bigger of the 2 pots in my 40 breeder. I don't bring anything, I just love the footprint.

Opinions/suggestions?
