Hey all, I am excited to say i picked up some juvenile GT's. unfortunately there was only 3 left, but i took them all anyway. I will post pictures on this thread within a few days as I can't find my camera! >.<
They are roughly in the 1.5 -2" range. Anyway I am hoping I can get a pair eventually, if not, i am okay with that. Is there any early behaviors i should be watching for? I notice the largest one chases the other two sometimes, but usually they stick together peacfully. Also they are in a 100 gallon with a large pleco, are there any target/dithers i should be adding soon?

any comments/ advice is appreciated, will post pics within a day or two!

1 pic worth more than whatever you wrote above :)

Mine has been on cichlid gold his whole life and he's the most colorful I've ever seen. Great personality and amazing fish!

Never heard that these have an issue with bloat more than any other ca/sa. Something like a Hait.....Now that has issues with bloat.

I've had mine on NLS with occasional mysis shrimp and bloodworms, and he's looking great. They are slow growers, though. And I've heard that some will stop eating for no reason sometimes. But I think that good water, and good food seems to solve most issues.

Good luck, GTs are still my favorites.

For dithers, I have my female in a 55 with a school of tiger barbs (12 - she leaves them alone 99% of the time, every few months one goes 'missing' in the night), a bristlenose pleco and a spotted raphael.

Other dithers worth looking at are slightly larger barbs (like rosy), giant danios, and of course silver dollars. Some people also like hatchet fish but I've never tried them. I've never done tetras either (I like my barbs), but a lot of people say there are types that work. A (same sex) pair of convicts or firemouths would probably be fine as long as they are raised together. But if you're planning to breed, it's probably best to keep them alone unless you have other tanks to move the dithers/GTs to.

Good luck with it! they were the first fish i ever owned, and i still find they are a pleasure to keep. I have had a young one die from bloating as well, but otherwise, i have had no issues with them at all
