after working all day in the freezing rain to get my new 500 gallon tank, i finally got it loaded up. my cousin was driving the truck with the trailer to my house an hour away but 5 minutes from my house he decided he was jeff gordan and hit a bump going WAY to fast. that shatterd 2 main peices of glass. i was so bummed out. but after sitting looking at it for a while i got the idea to cut the stand in half and use what i have to make a L tank thats mabe 230 gallons. now i need to get it together.

i want to replace the back and bottom with plywood but dont know how to do this. will silicon hold the coated wood to the glass no problem?

i think im going to do a sump filter but idk since im not working with what would be 650 gallons when i was finished. so what should i do for filtration?

and lastly im putting 2 pike cichlids a bowfin and a florida gar in it. what else could go in? i had plans for mabe a dat and id love a ray but idk if theyd fit comfortably now. any sugestions would be appreceated!
first pic of the tank before

and next how it is now (obviously not all set up)
ill probably have more questions later but im to tired to think right now lol

 omg I would have lost it for a good half of a day.
i was pretty upset but i guess its for the better since that half the tank would have taken weeks to get together. if i can get some time off work i could have this ready for water in two weeks

holy shibby!!! kick your cuz's ass.

very cool tank. never seen one with that configuration.

good luck on the rebuild

man im so gutted for you!! thought i had the worst luck but you've got me beat this time.

i must say thats the strangest dimension tank ive seen,

when u picked it up, was it setup to sit in a partition wall where your stood in the first pic?

good luck with the rebuild. take a look at the plywood builds, but silicone wont stick to the wood on its own.
you will need to fibreglass the wood first to make it water proof or use liquid rubber. its quite a lot of work, i would start by reading as many of the plywood builds as you can. knowledge is power.

hope this helps.

it has a stand but i cut it in half since half the tank is still intact. i was planning on using sweetwater epoxy on the plywood to waterproof it. ive heard great things about it and the price is right.

thanx! i think the hardest part was keeping my cool lol

for filtration i just thought about using two marineland magnum 350 canisters. would this be enough filtration?
