Got my Silver Arowana today. He is about 3.5". He is currently in a 15 gal tank with two black ghost knife fish (2" size).
In 2 months time I'll be moving everybody to a new 150 g tank. Fed them frozen bloodworms today and everybody seems to enjoy it. Seems to work out great since the BGKs are going for the food that falls to the bottom and the Aro is mainly on the top.

I got the Aro for $13. There were Red tailed asian ones of the 2.5" size prized at the $250 range. A 1' red aro was about $2000. I won't insult my aro by saying I would get the red tailed if I had money, but the big red tailed ones looked great.

Would it be possible to keep the aro in the 150g tank for 2 years? After that I might have to donate him to the public aquarium if the tank is too small for him (and may be go for a red tailed aro then)

By the way, looks like this guy is a major pooper. I better do frequent water changes on my 15 g.:)

You might be able to push two years if the foot print is 72x24" which would be highly unlikely for a 150g tank. Why is it that you assume a public aquarium will just gladly take the arowana from you? Sounds like bad planning to me.

You'll be able to keep him in the 150 for 2 years... He could be a bit squished in but it could be worse then a 150. I seariously wouldn't keep him with anything at this stage in his life though not even the ghostknifes. You'll find a taker for him in 2 years or so, if not trade him in to your LFS its better then having him stunt and die because nobody will buy him there when hes 2 feet if they have anything less then a 250 most likely. It will be harder to keep him in the 15 gal for a couple months. When fed properly and what not silvers grow REAL fast. Congratulations on your new pick-up and have fun watching your monster grow(:
