picked up an 18" fire eel today, love at first sight!

the colours are absolutely unbelievable and as soon as it's settled down i'll get some pics up. First eel i've purchased so any advice would be much appreciated.

Wow that guy is huge! Can you please post some pics of him! You can get that guy to eat from your hand and really tame him. Mine would stick his head out of the water and beg for food, he was also huge, i would feed him earthworms! This was back when i was a kid many years ago.
I would have a sector in the tank with deep sand where he can stick his head out but bury his intire body he will feel really comfortable.
Also i would completetly secure the top of the tank bro serious they are extremely powerful fish and he will push up your cover at night using his body strengh so put some rocks on the cover and make sure there is no areas he can push out from. IMO
Hope to see some pics i am going to bookmark this thread awoooooo

nice fish

What’s he feeding on? Did you ask them when you got him? It just when you first put them in with other fish they can starve unless you hand feed them keep us informed as he is certainly a stunner;) .

tried him on blood worm a minute ago but he didn't eat any. got him from ark aquatics in kent and gonna ask george aka fellow mfk-er puffer xtreme as he's been looking after him. anyone got any ideas?

I have see this happen loads of times I have grown a few on and sold them When you have them in a community tank I have always had to feed my ones by hand as they don’t get a look in I have nearly always got them on to mussel and prawns but some fussy eaters I have got them stared on worm and fresh river shrimp. But you really want to try and get them of the live stuff worms have worked in the past to get them feeding though;) and have a word with George;)

Great fish man, i fed mine nightcrawlers and frozen blood worms! I would have colonies of ghost shrimp living in his tank also but i am the guy that goes to the pet store every sunday looking for meaty feeder tropical fish and petsmart deals for 1 to 3 dollars for each feeder for my red tail payaras! Thats good gravel also man he should have no trouble burrying himself, he should be eating out of your hand in notime!

Great fish and some great plantwork too!
