I am currently setting up a new XP3 and noticed that it only comes w/ small amount of the bio-chem stars. I do however have some extra substrat pro.

I know this is a newbie question but could I combine the stars along with the substrat pro all in one tray (middle tray for xp3)? Would this make it more effective? I think I know the answer...but just wanted people's confirmation

i don't see anything wrong with that. If you really want to separate them just get a media bag. I had Substrat Pro under gravel in my 2213 for about 4 months. I like some order so i just put a fine filter pad between them when i last serviced my canister filter last week.

Thanks...That's what I assumed. I probably will make one part of the tray the stars...and the other half substrat pro so that everything can be separated.

I now have the in order in my 2213 filtering a 29g with a couple of Emperors

top
Gravel
Fine filter pad
Eheim Substrat Pro
Coarse filter pad
Bio Max
bottom

So far so good.

Thanks again.

I just wanted to make sure that putting a section of substrat pro in half a tray wouldn't be a bad move.

You will be fine putting them together.
