ok so today, i got some jack dempseys, i was at the lfs and i was unsure of what i actually wanted, but they were on sale for 99 cents a piece, so i got 4 of them, right now they are the only thing in the tank, it is a 90g. what would make good tank makes for a tank this size. i eventuallly plan on getting a 220 or something of that size range.

As far as good tank mates, I have kept oscars, salvini, and firemouths with jacks before. I have seen others successfully keep jags, green terrors, severums, texas, vieja argentea, and some catfish like synodontus (sp?), bigger pictus, and raphaels with them too. In a 90 though I would probably only add a couple more fish cause those JD's can get 10" roughly and a 90 isn't that big. If you are only looking at keeping 2 for the long run, I would probably go with a couple firemouths, salvini, a green terror, a severum, and maybe a catfish or two pending on what you want. These all stay somewhat smaller in comparison to other CA/SA cichlids. Good luck!

i have my jd with 2 bichirs. a 8 inch poly sen. an a 2 inch albino poly sen.

I would actually wait until there is a pair, then get rid of the other two.

Best plan. I would wait on others, cause if 2 do decide to pair off, you'll have some extra aggression, and will probably have to re-home the other 2, and possibly other tank mates if you got some now..

Put other cichlids and some target fish in there.

Maybe a jag, firemouth, sajicas, blue eyes, cutteri, GT... and something like silver dollars, balas, larger mexican tetras, catfish etc.

right now they are about 1.5 to 2 inches, i might just wait to add others like some have said, when there is a pair is adding fish after there is a pair the better way to add new fish
