So Im building a tank for the first time, I got some questions.
Do you have all four sides on top of the bottom pane, or should bottom pane be in between the front and back panes?

The tank is 6' x 3' x 24"... 12mm glass should be a safe bet, right?

You can actually build it either way.

Front, back, and side pieces should be on top of the bottom pane. Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSKIT2OLOYQ

Why do suggest this method? Just curious why one would be more biased towards the panes sitting on the bottom panel. The tensile strength of silicone is higher than the shear strength. Logic would say that you would want them resting on the stand. Just curious as to the rationale.

Think about applying the silicone. You run a bead of silicone and place the glass on it. The weight of the glass piece will prevent air bubbles. The other way, it is hard to prevent air bubbles in the silicone.

Makes sense. I've seen it done both ways with success, just curious is all.
