my F1 Altums laid their first batch of about 300-350 eggs on the heater (which was weird) and only about 75-100 of them survived without getting fungus.

the first picture is the pair...female on left, and male on right

second pic is male on left, female on right

third and fourth pictures are the eggs on the heater

and the 5th picture is the wigglers on some driftwood where the parents put them

i forget when i should start feeding them their fry food...is it once they become free swimming?

They will probably eat them the first few times until the parenting instinct kicks in. You will probably have better success moving the fry to a much smaller tank with a sponge filter. This way they can't be sucked up by a filter, they won't have to use up energy finding food and it will be easier to feed. I used First Bites and freshly hatched brine for mine and they did well.

right on, thanks for the info man

No problem. That's what I did when my angels bred. Moved them from a 55 to a one gallon jar with an airstone, then to a 2.5 gallon, 10 gallon, 20 long and finally a 35 before giving them away. Do very frequent water changes and feedings and they will grow quick. Nothing in tank but a sponge filter and I used a mystery snail to keep uneaten food and dead fry cleaned up.

in my very short experience with breeding (convicts and now angels) yeah its been like that so far...but with a closer look they just look like a tiny tadpole with an egg sac and big black eyes like this salmon egg/fry
