Got my 300 gallon acrylic today! 96x30x24". I need to build my stand though. Probably going with 4x4's and 2x4's. Basic stand build. It WILL however be at least 36" tall.

The tank has a center rear overflow, and 4 holes for returns across the top in the back. My pump is external, and I'm sort of stumped on how to go about making my sump. Should I make it out of a regular glass tank? Or is there any series of rubbermaid containers I can use? It has to have a lid though. I've never made a sump out of an aquarium before. Does anyone have any pics of sumps made from fish tanks?

What size tank should I use? And any suggestions on how I should set up the plumbing? I do want the 4 return lines to come off the main return from the pump and have a valve on each of them to adjust flow. Other than that, any ideas?

Thanks MFK! We have a beautiful project in the works here. I will update as they come!

Pretty much ANY container that will hold water can be made into a sump. I think a 75g acrylic tank is over kill myself.

I think the first question you need to ask yourself is what functions do you want your sump to serve? Biological filtration = a fair size wet/dry bio ball chamber or some sort of submersed media. Mechanical filtration = filter socks, filter pads or filter floss etc. Do you want it to serve as a refuge? Do you want to put plants in it?

Its going to be mechanical and biological. Filter sock/pad and a bio ball chamber.

Heres what I got done today : ) snagged my dad in the pic.

Forgot to add, I stole this stand build of MFK, I'm just trying to find the thread so I can give the original poster some credit! I'm sorry! lol.

Stand looks good. I had a 55g tank for a sump on my 300g. Silicones a divider in probably about 36" from one side and filled that whole section with bio balls. Put drip tray over that and had 3 1" drains dumping over it . There was the blue filter padding on top of tray. Mag drive 24 pump and 2-300watt heaters. I had HEAVY bio load and never any problems with doing weekly water changes

That sounds doable. I just need to drill a hole for my external dolphin pump, and then drill another hole higher than that because it's going to be the drain for my drip system.
