So I got a new Aro, one 2-2.5 inch African Aro. Awesome little guy and luckily the LFS I got him from was feeding him frozen blood worms. I think he might have had ich at the store saw another one in the same tank with a white speck or two on it.

He is in my quarantine tank 10 gal divided in half with a small pike I just got as well, heat is turned up to about 83-84 and have salt. I plan on doing 2-3 50% water changes to the tank for the first 3-4 weeks, I normally do this with new fish especially in such a small tank. The Aro is eating great and pooping like a champ, I feed 2-3 times a day, the pike finally figured it out and is eating the frozen blood worms.

I have read the post on here about African Aros and also the Primitive Fish Site (very good info on there) and wanted to get some insight from people regarding their personal experience with getting an African Aro on to pellets and possibly pieces of market shrimp and at what size did they attempt to do this? I’ve gotten other Aros (Black, Jars, Lech,) pike, and gars as well on pellets.

Thanks.

I kept some before but they die on me out of the blue despite they are eating.:irked:

yeah small africans are prone to disease much quicker... they tend to die unexpectedly at a early age and when i worked at a LFS bout 7 yrs ago they ordered buncha babies, half died.

Thanks guys, I'll try to keep conditions as best as possible.

I grew out my Blk Aro from 2.5 inches to his current size of 22-23. This was my first baby Blk Aro so hopefully I get luck with this African Aro.

i bought my lil guy last month hes was 2 inches long now hes 4 inches xD hes doing good,i just feed him 2 blocks of blood worms a day i change like 40~50% water every week

Saw afro aro one time in LFS across the river ... never seen anyone actually keeping one around here (at least i don't know anyone).

Would be an interesting thread to follow ... personally i don't keep them cos they eat too different from my other beasties

Good luck with your new cool pickup

they eat the same thing as reg arows but at diff sizes O_O

Well with the heat up and the salt the Ich looks to be disappearing. I'm gonna keep the heat up and the salt going for another week or two, and keep them in the tank for another 3-4 weeks hopefully getting them on either pellets or market shrimp. I think the treatment is also helping the pike, it has some fungus on him that seems to be disappearing as well.

my little guy is getting bigger haha
