hi guys,

im new here and wanted some expert advise! ive got a pink giant gourami and thought he mite want a friend he's about 40cm in a 8 foot tank my local aquarium is selling a giant gourami but with a hump on his head i think it is a golden giant gourami simalar colour about 30cm
would that be a smart move to buy it?? and could they breed if there different gouramis??
any answers would help thanks!!!

Welcome to MFK. 30cm is about the time they get very grumpy. I dont think your 40cm GG will allow you to put him/her in the tank(they usually need to grow up together or you need a MONSTER tank). Your tank will not be big enough for 2 mature GG's. Also, if they do breed(i have never seen a hybred GG) your going to need a spare tank for the female as the male will become very aggressive and can easily kill her.

How many gallons is your tank we have 3 rt gouramis and added 2 giant gouramis that were onlt one third their size and had no problem. These fish are in a 4x4 200 gallon I know we will need a bigger tank because I really want to breed the rtg but I think for now the square tank give them an illusion of room. Our rtg are about 15 inches long the gg are about 6 to 7 sure like their personality. From what I have read breeding gg in an aquarium is very hard and you would need a lot of room.
