ok I have some Festaes growing in my 120 gallon tank. They are all from 1.5 inches to the biggest one that is about 4 inches now. I just notice the big one(which I think is a male) digging on the substrate and building kind of a nest under some slate rock I added not too long ago.

Does this mean he is getting ready to match up with another fish or just marking his territory ?

I havent notice the other doing this and the big one is always chasing the others around so maybe is just territorial right ?

just asking. I dont have too much experience with CA/SA cichlids so I dont know their behaviors and stuff like that .

He's just clearing his territory.. building a cave. My male salvini does the same all the time after I re-arrange the tank... he chooses a spot and builds a nest under a slate rock.

This is the one he's building just now

He has claimed that territory.
