I picked up a 4 inch SRD flowerhorn this past weekend. This is my first one, and I'm curious what an experienced flowerhorn keeper thinks of his quality. To me he looks like a stunner, very active and aggressive for food. Follows me all over the tank. Just curious if his kok looks like it will grow into a nice large hump with proper feeding a water changes. Anyone's opinions help. Thanks.

Beautiful Flowerhorn! I’ve got black substrate as well. Mine’s some sort of Red Dragon that’s darkened up.

it'll look better with lighter substrate. Black will muddy up the colour.

I’ve got some off white sand on hand. Would that have the opposite effect and wash him out? I’m not happy with how dark he is with the black sand.

He's a stunning little fella some lighter substrate would do wonders for his colours. He definitely could have the potential to have a good size kok this was my guy on day one and then the second pic is him week one and the other two after some good growth. As you can see my FH started out the same as yours in kok size but it dose some what depend on genetics as well.

Keep us posted with pics would be nice to see him grow.

Thank you, unfortunately he's not with me now I lost him to internal parasites but I fed him hikari gold, hikari excel, freeze dried krill and the odd bit of shrimp.
do you reckon he caught the parasites from the shrimp?

No I don't, I think it was down to a bad start in life I had him on meds a lot right from day one unfortunately. When he was shipped he was left in the depot for 2 days before they decided to deliver him, I thought he was dead upon arrival.
