I know there is no real guideline for grading but I'm curious of how it is done then. I mean two different people can and will have two different opinions so how can a grade be judged? I saw this on Facebook even thou the person was asking for the type the only answer he got was low grade fh. Personally to me this guy looks very nice I would personally grade it atleast medium grade. Here's the pic. ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1381141416.679113.jpg

I don't know much about grading either but I agree with you. It might not have a huge hump but its red is richer than a lot that I have seen and that's why I would think its not a low grade. Those that gave it a low grade where probably just jealous! Lol

This is probably the best fh I've ever seen and something i would pay good money for. This was one of the responses on the post. "They are but due to line breeding and crosses the " higher" grade flowerhorns have lost a lot of those traits. If you look at titaniums kamfas or the other breeds they don't look that close to a wild trimac. This one still has the red eyes the trimac shape and close patterns and coloring. Like I said I'd take that one over a high grade any day"

Me too. Now I'm not saying its a MP or anything but I would think it has the potential to create some MP's. It does look close to a trimac vs having the bulky build that a lot of fh's have, but its color is very rich and that alone is what took it off the low grade identification for me. I think we're going off personal interest vs the "grading scale" and that's why we're not judges. Lol

I'm a newbie when it comes to fhs. I would like to see what some of the experts grade this guy thou.

For me it's near perfect. I'm not a fan of big koks. I just think they look weird. So this is beautiful. The only thing bringing it down for me is that it's head is not as vibrant red as the body and that the markings don't pop towards the rear of the fish. But between the color of the body and the main area of the flower mark having such contrast it's a beautiful fish.

Not sure if this worked. Check out first diagram

Yeah the link worked... Just makes me think beauty and grading are 2 different things. To where what we see here as beautiful just wouldn't "score" high on a grading scale. I think the grading scale was created to bring out certain traits of the gene that's created. For instance if there where 2 midas in a store and one was a solid orange with a big hump with trailers and the other was creamsickled without a hump no trailers. Although most might prefer the creamsickle without a hump... The solid color would probably get a higher grading because of its hump and trailers. At the end of the day I guess its what the breeder wants because when it comes down to breeding pure breeds there is a grading scale as well... certain traits are kept while others are culled.

My evaluation of this fish is the same as was already told to you. Low grade RD. The caudal peduncle/tail isn't wide/strong enough, mouth protrudes just a bit too much, not enough -or the right distribution of- pearls. Having said all that...
I learned a long time ago to disregard grade's, to some extent anyway. Does this fish fit the bill for you? Can you look at it and say ah yes, the markings/color/shape do it for me? If you can that's the only grading system I'd worry about. The same can be said for price, did you think it was worth the price? Because if you think it was worth the price, it was. I also agree with your opinion about the overall shape/color of this fish, I love it, it has awesome color saturation, nice stocky body... I could wish it has more of a kamfa or synspila face/mouth, but thats just my personal preference.
