has any one ever kept a grammode with a bumblebee catfish (Pseudopimelodus bufonius) the grammode is currently around 4 5 inch he s growing steadily and is alone in a 55 loads of rocks and he makes a mess with his food so a greedy cleaner fish would help my lfs has a bumblebee cat that i really want has any 1 tried this kind of combo i dont want to rush out and buy the bumblebee and the grammode kill him
my thinking is the bumblebee is nocturnal and my grammode is active all day not shy so hoping for a time share kinda thing

I have a 55 grow out tank at the moment with a pair of convicts, my male grammode who is about 6 inches or so, and a 2.5-3 inch bumble bee cat. I rarely see the bbcat but sometimes they squabble over territory. I've had the bbcat for almost 2 months now, no major problems.

If the cat can stay hidden it might be fine but you never know. Ive had more than one clown loach disappear to my umbee (I know that sounds like an obvious thing, but the umbe was maybe 3 times the size of the clown loach and is only 6 inches or so, so I thought I had months before it would be a problem) and my loaches almost always stay hidden. Those bumblebees hide so much he could be fine. realistically you'll stop seeing the cat altogether and you wont be sure if its hiding or eaten until you rearrange your tank

ok so im not to far off in my thinking then. thanks for the replys the bbcat in question is around 4 5 inch mark and currently shares his tank in the lfs with my grammodes bigger bro and is in good shape still, been about a month now so guessing he stays out the way most the time but you can see him in the shop just sat next to a urn looking ornament i will provide several hiding places for him front facing so i can see in and my lfs guy will take him back if it does nt work out but id only get stored cred
falazo how do the cons and he get along ,i was thinking along them lines as i like the idea of a ca biotope all rock caves and sand when i upgrade my boys tank, i have space for a 5.9 x 3x 3 ft tank but dont want to give up my grammode hes such a cool fish i find him quite interactive he ll try bite at me and is so active i really enjoy watching him

thanks for the reply i was thinking that the cat would hide most the time unlike the clowns there quite active i dnt mind not seing the bbcat to often but im up to the early hours most days and hopefully will get a glimps or two under a moon light maybee ?? and if i build him hides that allow me to see through some pvc pipe under rocks all facing forward i should be able to see him when hes hiding hes to big for the grammode to eat at the mo and should max out befor the gramode hes slow to grow hes prob grown 3 inch in 4 n half month so just under an inch a month,do the cats normaly grow quicker ?? thanks for the reply atb

Grammodes have an internal clock that clicks and they turn to killers. My 7inch female must be kept alone no matter what. Huge tanks are needed to keep them with other fish when larger. May work now but they can kill an entire stock overnight.

The convict pair is actually my male convict and female hondurian red point female. But they fight here and there but nothing to serious my grammode has always been more on the mellow side. Right now they have baby fry so their more eager to protect but they slowly get picked off at night by the bbcat and grammode. I think if it were not a pair it would work a lot better, plan to move the pair to a 20 gallon of their own.
