As some of you may know, I am keeping a Dovii and Grammodes. I can really see why they're called the Mini-Dovii. That's exactly what they look like. I know their coloration is different but they're shaped very similar and have the same behaviors. You know how science is always coming back and saying they made a mistake and reclassify cichlids. Have these fish been genetically tested by scientists to prove they're different species yet? Just curious.

Here's where I'm coming from:

wow great idea for a thread!, I personally don't know enough about cichlid classification of cichlasoma or Excichlasoma for that matter, but I have always considered grammodes a Guapote, even if they weren't classified under them and parachromis were. i would like to see some of the collectors and importers weigh in on this. We could be on the break of something big...

Thanks ghostknifefish.

XR they really look alike don't they? Their heads, eye's and shape of their mouth and big teeth are almost identical. And Grammodes aren't considered a Guapote?

I have heard that beani, istlanum, and grammodes are very similar genetically and may be placed together in a new genus soon. However, I also heard that grammodes is a little bit of an odd one out in this group.
