OK I just bought a metal stand and have also bought two new 75 gallon tanks. I want to stock them with something rare. Put it this way, my two favorits cichlids are my Trimac and my Oscar, reason being is they are always always always in my face. I hate fish that sit all day and hide. Sorry never liked Dempseys or Jags. I want something moving. I pay for all the equipment, food and my labour I want to see them swim Damnit LOL

I think one of the 75 will be stocked with about 6 Odo's. Obvioulsy they won't stay, there juvies and I want to pick and choose. The other tank I am choosing between two. A festae or a Grammodes. I don't know much about Grammodes. Someone with some info or good links for info about this fish please tell me. Are these mean guys??? do they grow fast??? do they hide or are they in your face all day and love to eat???

grammodes are supposed to grow vry slow never kept them so i don't know much about there personality but they seem to be very guttsie fish i've seen them fight with fish alot bigger then them there are supposed to be aggressive to

red terrors would be nice a male would out grow a 75 but a female would be very nice

Female Festae have a great re sell value FWIW...

Not all grammodes are shy, I've got a 4.5" male right now that's always in my face. Mind you when I had him growing out by himself in a 29g, he hid all the time. I think the key with all shy cichlids is to have them in a large tank, with lots of other equally aggressive fish or dithers.

how do you sex these guys?

Grammodes? If so, males have red spots below the lateral line.

In general grammodes are shy. I only had 1 male who didn't hide & that basically was I didn't give him cover for the 1st 6 months or so & he got used to being in the open. They are one of my fav 5 though. & definately killers. Oh yeah give them someone to chase then they'll come out.
