anyone ever tried to build a tank from granite slabs or marble with a glass front. i know it would'nt be the cheapest tank out there, but if it could be done it would be monster. will it work?

wow, wish I could answer better. I actually think you would make it work, edge deep into the granite to make it support the glass.

I wonder if you'd want to do this though-- going to have to build a very strong stand to support this monster you could just add some granite to the background for the same effect and have a much lighter setup.

i dont think it would work long term. marble has veins-and those would be weak points-same with granite. it would shatter under the weight over time.

thats what i was wondering. i know the old tanks used slate bottoms, so i thought a tank made from granite counter top slabs would've been nice. think i will save my time and money.

one could use the same material as the artificial(resin) granite counter tops for a similar look. once polished the stuff can be hard to tell apart.
