i would like to add larger rocks to my 55 gallon tank. i know 2 companies pretty well that works with granite counter tops and they throw away alot of scraps away everyday. could i use these scraps of granite or not?????????? if i can will it affect my ph or anything like thanks.

Granite is fairly stable. Just watch out that they don't use a sealer that may leach out chemicals. Marble may be corroded by your water depending on the pH.

granite is excellent its inert so it wont leach anytihng into the water or alter your ph i jsut got some 2 very nice big peices of it from my cottage and they'll be going inside my 150 gallon tank when its finaly set up

it probably wont be safe then i wouldnt risk it unless you can find out exactly what is in the sealer and then see if it would be safe for fish

Keep in mind that granite is a very good conductor of heat. Thats why it always feels cold to the touch. I have no idea how this will affect your tank temp, but my guess is it will take much longer to heat the water since the granite will be absorbing the heat very quickly. Think of it as a heat sponge...
