I was not sure if i would be able to use peat media in my filters fo r my convicts, jds, rd,mayan, jag, or texas cichlids. So can i?? and i was wondering what exactly its used for and is it better than carbon? TIA.
well peat is a tanin and that lowers the ph for your aquarium...its sorta porous so it holds some bacteria in it even though you must change it like carbon..but it does not filter dissolved solids like carbon, and for your fish they are all central american fish so you want a higher pH in the 7.5 to 8.0 range and a higer hardness...so know i would not use peat but kent does make a product for central american cichlids
