hello i am currently wanting to add some real wood and rock to my aquarium and have aquired a flukers grapevine branch for free and was wondering if there were any hazards to putting grapevine in the aquarium. i have a 65 gal with 5 fancy goldfish and a spotted sailfin pleco, also is a 30 gal with a electric blue johannii chiclid and a hybrid of a firemouth. they are both connected through a 30 gal diy sump with a 450 gph pump. i have yet to add any real decorations to my tanks for fear of harming scales on my goldfish but with the addition of the 30gal and the chiclids i am finding i really like the look of the real wood and possible plants. since i am just starting out i was hoping for a little insight on the subject. i currently have the grapeving in a large bucket with hot water to try and leach (spelling?) as much as possible out of the wood before putting it in the tank. thanks to any help possible.

This is all Grape Wood I bought from a local fish store. It does leach a lot - this stuff had been soaking for three months when I got it and it is still leaching.

Thanks, I'm glad I could help! These pieces are stumps from an old (really old, from the looks of it) vineyard in Napa Valley.

HANDS DOWN, you got nice wood dan!! ;)
Very very organic lookin'!

Hehe... :D

I got my wood from a reptile store. They stated it was grapevine and it extremely hard making it a nightmare to saw through. No problems with it other than it floats and had to be weighted down, my BN plecos seems to like chewing on it.
