where my cichla are
i was at a reptile store that just happened to have some fish stuff too..

i found a piece of grapevine that if it can't be used in an aquarium will do nicely for one of my snakes.

it says on the tag: Small Grapevine, Sandblasted and Heat Treated, No Insecticides or Chemicals.

I can take a pic of it if necessary.. would it be ok for young master Prince's tank? What should i do first? soak it? find a way to anchor it?

I used to breed snakes & bearded dragons & had tons of grape vines. I asked the same question several times and was always told not to use it in aquariums. Sorry...:irked:

I have been using large grapevine root-like pieces in 2 out of my 5 tanks for a few years now without any ill effects what so ever. If you ask me, this stuff looks better than any other type of driftwood and sinks faster too

Thought most grapevine sold would rot or develop a fungus when submerged.

ok.. i have the grapevine soaking in tap water. I would still appreciate more input.. any more suggestions? help? any special info on grapevine that i need to know to make it safe for Prince's tank?

how is the wood going to affect his tank mates, the angelfish, baby c. orinocensis, our new amazing disappearing catfish, and the stupid mollies?

well, we soaked it until it stayed down and the water stayed clear in the bucket. we removed the greek ruin ornament from the tank and put the wood in it's place.

the angels and the little pbass don't seem too concerned. "Prince" on the otherhand is not interested in it at all.. has gone out of his way to avoid it. Go to all this trouble for him and he isn't even interested in it.. just my luck. The snails find it interesting though..

Any update on this piece of grapevine in your tank? I am interested in doing the same thing and wondered how it would hold up in the long run. Thanks
