ive been wanted to do a native tank for awhile and something thats manageable. the fish that comes to my mind is a grass/redfin pickerel and from what ive read they seem to only get to 12 inches max which is easily manageable in a tank.

my questions would be what size tank to keep them in? and whats the best way to get one? vendor onthe forum? aquabid? go catch one myself? thanx in advance for responses

If you get a small one (2-3") use a 10g. It makes it easier to feed.

Once larger, I'd step up to a 30g long.

If it gets close to 12", then I'd upgrade to a 75g.

They show up on aquabid, and Zimmerman's captive bred native fish, sach's at aquaculturestore.

Edit: Oh yeah, you're in NJ. Depends on where you are at, you should be able to find redfin pickerel. Not sure about NJ laws, so check to see how you can legally catch one.

thanx for the info
