Have anyone tried grasshoppers as a long term diet for arowana? how was it? anyone know the nutrition value for a grasshopper? I've tried feeding my arowana a few grasshoppers, it eat like crazy.

I feed my ar grasshopper whenever i can catch one. Variety of food sources is the key to have healthy arowana. Beside common food item like crickets, super mealworms, you can feed grasshoppers, cicada, crayfish (depend on the aro size), and frozen shrimp.
Below is the nutrional table of common insect as food sources for fish, lizard, etc

My black aros love gasshoppers, along with miller moths and crickets. I'm sure my silvers would love them too, but very hard for them to take anything of the surface.

Being that I keep chameleons along side with arowanas, my aros get a lot of insects in their diet consisting of dubia roaches, crickects, superworms, hornworms, silkworms, and the occasional mantis.

I like to feed crickets because they'll eat almost anything. I feed the crickets about one hour before the aro. I give the crickets a varied diet, therefore the aro gets a varied diet. I don't feed any fish(disease, high fat, DE etc.). I also like supplement with whatever I can catch for him. Flys, spiders, moths, small frogs, baby mice. I wouldn't advise mammals and amphibians till the aro gets at least 15 inches. Their digestive systems seem to be a little fragile when young. It's not likely for an arowanna to eat shrimp in the wild. I'd stay away from them.

i breed locusts for my vip red.
gutload the locust with spirulina powder or sweet potato grated finely, they will eat it as a source of more moisture or if you starve the locust enough.
locust actually hvae more protein but less calcium compared to crickets, crockets are good because they will EAT anything so easy to gutload.

but most asian aro keepers i noticed dont know the principles of gutloading, gutloading is mainly a reptile keeper habit i see lol but gutloading is awesome!

locusts are good, very large insects too, aros love them as they put up a good fight.
