I currently have a 5x2x2 tank with a 22 inch arowana, It sfiltration is only an Eheim 2250 Canister filter filled with filter flosss, sintered glass and some crushed corals. I'm going to add 3 Bichirs soon, Would it help if i add half an inch of gravel into the tank, just as additional bio media for bacteria to colonize?
btw i Alsi have an airstone and spong efilter in my tank. just suddenly thought of adding gravel if it would help?

If your biofilter in the 2250 can handle it, spare the gravel.

yes it would. just make sure you vac it and keep it clean otherwise itll be a pollution factory

edit: and you may want to use a finer grain size for the bichirs

thanks, still undecided as I'm worried would also make maintenance hardeR? will a 1/2 inch layer be good?

I usually do at least an inch. However, its not necessarily "the more, the merrier." Too deep, and the bottome layer will be hypoxic and can actually be harmful; too shallow, however, and there is little surface area for bb to colonize.

I wouldn`t do it.
The "O" is going to dump a bunch into the gravel bed.
Your going to need to clean often and vigorously.
The bacteria are not going to like what you need to do to clean the gravel and the fish won`t like your water if you don`t clean the gravel well.
Looks, lose-lose to me.
