I changed my gravel from black beauty to large peebles, and added a powerhead. It's been 2 weeks and my tank still looks clean, I still do water changes 2-3 times a week. But before the powerhead my RTC would make my tank look filthy. Here's some pics

Oh I this pick he ate 11 large goldfish the day before. I was surprised he didn't barf....... That's one thing he doesn't throw up is goldfish, but if I feed him some shrimp or some worms and gets scared he'll barf it up and the tank will be nasty.

Lookin' good. Is it just me, or does that RTC look a little stumpy??? lol.

is that even possible a midget fish???

It is possible. midget(dwarfism) is basically a lack of pituitary gland stimulation. It can occur in any animal that has a pituitary gland. Most of the time in the wild they would be weeded out. It would be extremely rare to see one, but because of the high survivability rate in captivity due to lack of predators these could actually live an prosper.

I would just have a few questions about your fish. How long have you had it? How much has it grown since you've had it? How big is it now? I have actually seen another RTC on here that I would say is stunted or is actually a dwarf. I'd say more than likely your fish may be stunted rather than dwarfed. Basically they would look practically the same. They can be stunted due to several reasons. Could be lack of food(doubt it), small confined living conditions(more likely), also could be poor quality of food which I doubt would result in stunting unless you were just feeding it nothing but flake food. Hope this helps.

I also think it looks stumpy, but also very cute. But hey, not to worry, if it IS a dwarf, just think, it cant swallow the neighbours cat. Or grow 4ft. Just 2.

Upon further review of your catfish. I can see that the head and dorsal region of your catfish are normal. The caudal fin(tail) is also normal. The region from just behind the dorsal fin to the adipose fin, to the caudal fin seems really short. Note how the adipose fin actually overlaps the caudal fin. Same thing with the anal fin. I am betting with your fish that he is not stunted nor is he a dwarf. He has a short spinal column from just behind the dorsal region until you get to the caudal region. This would explain it pretty much he's either missing vertebrae, or they are shorter than normal.

I have to agree...I can look from the picture over to Lucy's tank and the differance is like night and day. He/She has to have a shorter spine to account for that.

Two quick points....if your RTC is throwing up that often you need to cut down on the amount of food. (Lucy eats a LOT less than that and she's slightly over 18" long.) and you also need to be feeding him/her when the lights out. (Don't drag the neighborhood into the room to watch your fish eat...)
