Hey people, i bought two 25lb bags of gravel from big al's. Rinsed them throughly like it says to get rid of any extra colouring dyes. I put it all into my tank and everything was fine. Didn't affect my water colouring or anything like that.
Aaanyway, I have a common pleco and hes about 2.5 inches long. I noticed that he likes to suck onto the gravel and his poo strings ive seen floating around and attached to him are a greenish colour! (the exact same colour as my gravel). I know this cannot be healthy for him but he has been in this new tank with this new gravel for a month now and he seems fine. What should I do?! I don't know if theyre is much i can do... besides wait and see if he is ever affected. Can someone help me out?! Ive never heard of this before, has it happened to you?!

What are you feeding it? Is the gravel becoming paler, losing its colour?

Different foods produce different coloured poo. Cucumber and courgette often produce green to cream poo. Carrot and sweet potato will produce orange poo. Soft fruits like apple and pear produce light brown poo. Typical flake/tablet/wafer food will produce traditional brown poo.

Currently not feeding him any fruits or vegetables. I've just been feeding him the Omega1 algae rounds, and he loves shrimp pellets too. The gravel doesn't seem to be losing its colour... My pleco has been sucking on this gravel, like i said, for a month now and he seems perfectly fine.
Thanks for that info on different colours and what they mean, I wont be freakin out in the future now that i know what foods will do what to his poop!
