Okay, I went to my lfs and talked to him about a filter I'm making that pulls water through the gravel. He said doing that would remove all of the oxygen that goes through the water. Is this true or is he making things up?

Hello; Does sound similar to a traditional undergravel filter (UGF). Please post more information. I used UGF for decades and never had a problem keeping fish alive. Not clear how gravel can scrub oxygen.
An excessive amount of decaying organic matter might take up a lot of oxygen.
Fish shop employees are often uninformed and prone to freely give poor advice. It is a good practice to question and check such statements.

Thankyou.:)
It seems that it might or might not but in the end it doesn't seem like a problem.
