Is it possible to have kuhlis in a tank with a gravel bottom instead of sand, or must it be a smooth subsrate. My gravel pretty smooth, but wouldn't quite be appropriate for burrying.

If it doesn't have sharp edges they Kuhlis should be fine.

Ditto. Sand is better though but that's up to you.

I have my Kulis isn a tank with a mixture of river gravel and flourite and they do fine in it. A more sandy bottom would be better for them I'm sure, but sand could kill a few other fish I have in that tank.

how does sand kill fish?

I am not sure how it can do that. The LFS that I got my mormids from told me not to put them in any of my sand tanks becouse the sand may kill them. I like the little guys so I don't want to chance it, and untill I can find good info on them I will go with what the LFS said.

Sounds like hogwash to me.:screwy: They better present their reasons for believing sand killed the fish. Their natural habitat is mostly silt yet sand would kill?
