Its that time of the week again... Just got paid and want to spend some money on the fishtank.

I just got it last week and didnt have enough to do any customizations to it so i left it as it was.

Heres what it looks like atm..

I will be the first to admit... the tank looks kind of tacky and i wanted to get some new gravel for it as well as change the decorations. Now im not going to spend my whole paycheck on it so 1 thing at a time.

First thing i was thinking of changing was the gravel... I dont know why but my tank water looks yellowish and not nice and clear and i believe its due to the yellowish gravel and the driftwood...

The plan that me and my gf have in mind is to eventually take the decorations off except the wood and make horizontal rock caves(stacked) which look awesome.

So heres the first question. Sand or Black Gravel... Which would you choose and why?

well i have large black river rock (1-3 inch) in my 60 gal tank its smooth, easy to clean, and gives good contrast. But in my 330 im building im plannin on white sand because i like the look but it is hard to clean :/. the yellow hint that you have could be because of the log. its staining the water like a tea. but after time that should stop and it will begin to clear up from water changes. haha and yeah just a bit tackey. i go for a natural look lots of live plants.

Ditch all the colorful decorations. Go for all natural look and let your fish colors speak for themselves. I much prefer sand over gravel. Switched to sand couple years back and never looked back.

what's ur budget?
you can do play sand or pool filter sand really cheap(my avatar is play sand $4 for 50lbs, couldn't find PFS), but if i had more money i'd go for black sand instead. sand isn't too hard to clean...fish waste stays on top so it's easy to vacuum out during water changes. only problem is that if you have hang-on-back filters or powerheads...sand getting stuck in the impeller will make it nosier

Go with the sand, it's much easier to clean.

Edit: Wait what?! You released the pacu into a pond?! (2nd youtube vid)

I can spend up yo 50 dollars on sand/gravel. For the black gravel i can get 75 pounds for around $40. I dont know prices on sand.

Yeahhhhh.
You shouldn't have released the fish.
It's just irresponsible and completely unnecessary. It doesn't matter if its just in a lake, because what if everyone with pacus too small for their tanks did that? Every lake would be overrun with them and the natural ecosystem will be destroyed. A 20lb pacu can do a lot of damage...And a pair of them breeding in a lake? It's a nightmare.

guess you missed that sticky on top. you can't justify your actions unless the pond is owned by you. did you think about what reproducing pacu's will do to the fish population of that pond?
