Hello--

I have a 29 gal outgrow tank with gravel and will be getting a 60 or 75 gallon tank and wondered which is better, gravel or sand?

I really like the way sand looks in the photos I've seen, but I have no idea if it's harder to clean, etc.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Both have benefits and drawbacks, really is a matter of preference. If ya like how it looks then go for it.

African cichlids--for the most part. But also an algae eater and a featherfin catfish. Fairly high pH tank.

I think the africans prefer sand, it is mainly what is in the lakes. You will see them sift it through their gills, I think it helps to clean them,,,they love it!!

I would go with sand , looks great with Africann Cichlids .

But whats an Algea Eater ?

do you mean -

Or

pleco.jpg
- If its that one , then you mean a Pleco ( not really an Algae Eater , Yes they do eat a llittle but do need alot of other sorts of foods aswel ) .

Sorry to sound rude by asking that , but i hear too many people asking for Algae Eater/ Sucker Fish at my LFS and meaning Pleco's And i have see a couple of people go Pleco's Algea Eaters on MFK . I just want to double check .

Sand!!! I like it more, waist builds up on top! plus i love the ever changing bottom

Yeah I would go with sand. I am contiplating taking up my gravel in the 75 gallon and putting black sand in there (when I ever get the extra money).

I have black sand in the kids 10 gallon, and it looks awesome. Much easier to maintain.

sand or barebottom...
