i got a 110 gal tank
im putting in a wet/dry 25 gal sump a canister filter rated 100 gal
4 filtration also im putting 2 802 poer heads by the bottom to kick up the waste in to the filter

i dont care much 4 large gravle is there a good type of sand that wont get kicked up hard by the 802s?
also with this set up will i get alot of setttement build up in the sand?
or do you think i could get away with 1 syphon a month lets say to keep it clean

Powerheads placed near the bottom are going to move even the heaviest type of sand. It is not necessary to use powerheads towards the bottom to try and kick up waist for the filter; especially if you go with sand, because the waste will just settle on top of the sand to be easily removed with a net or syphon. If you are concerned about the appearance of waste on the sand, just go with a dark color. One of the reasons I prefer to use a darker colored sand is because waste shows up like a sore thumb on lighter colors.

good old pool filter sand works excelent just rinse and put it in gives off a nice natural look and easier to clean than gravel. but for sand i would recomend hydor koryla power heads they spread the flow because of how there designed as opposed to disturbing the sand

ok cool

only way to get dark sand is to pay out the @55 4 it huh?

or do pool supply stores sell darker sand?

See if any landscape supply stores near you carry 3M colorquartz sand. 3M makes two grain sizes in all kinds of colors, including darker colors such as red and black. A place near me sells 50 lb bags for around $20-$30. Although I heard rumors that this sand was going to be discontinued this year.

go barebottom man, you'll love it
