I have a 120g tank with gravel in it. I want to go with white sand now. I plan on moving my tank in a week or so. So thats when I plan on switching to sand. Will this be alright? Should I save some of my old water? I have a xp3 and a xp4. I have 8 Cichilds in there right now.

Not much in the way of bb in the water column. Definitely do not wash out filters. They will seed your substrate. If it makes you feel better there is no harm in using old tank water.

sand is a cool idea! in my opinion i think the best white sand is pool filter sand. it stays on the bottom and is easy to clean. in one of my tanks i did 75% white sand and 25% back sand and it looks awesome
here is a pic of my little endli chilling on the black/white sand

now to clean your sand before you put it into your tank you should dump some sand in a 5 gallon bucket and run a hose till the water runs clear out of the bucket (do outside)
after that then dump it into your tank
when you do water changes just skim over the sand with your gravel vac
you will find that water changes are much easier with sand
