How do i start a siphon to do a gravel vac on my ten gallon tank without manually sucking the water through the hose?

just jerk the vacum head up and down under the water until u get a suction its pretty easy when u figure it out
so is the vacuum head facing up or down? I tried the method where you lift the head out of the water but i didn't have enough room
Place thumb over end over bucket. Fill tube with water by scooping it out of the tank with the gravel vac. When tube is full, submerge gravel vac section so that it too is sumbmerged and release your thumb over bucket. quick, easy, and no crap in mouth.
give one quick hard suck.... yer not trying to leave the tank smiling.. no need to suck till you get a mouthful
