Just curious about the physics of gravel vacing....

Does anybody know if the pressure of ones gravel vac. decreases, increases, or remains the same as the water in your tank is drained? :)

I ask because I wanted to know at what pont is the pressure the strongest when I water change my 180's.

p.s. I failed physics in college!

the pressure decreases as the water drains but the difference isn't enough to mention.

Well as the level of the water drops, the amount of water running thru the pipe (let's say gal/sec) will decrease since the pump does not has the water column pushing down to help . So you get the most gal/sec at the beginning at the least at the end. This is the same in your car (especially when you have small car like Civic), when the tank is full , the car is a little peppier. I could be wrong, I didn't do well in zics either.

ummmm ok thats what i thought also....

thanks!!!

Your car has a fuel pump that keeps the pressure the same untill the tank is empty, in fact the car would be quicker as the tank got lower because of the reduction in weight.

wow repair good logic and thinking....

The bigger the drop for the siphon the stronger the suck, so placing your bucket lower will increase your flow rate.
:iagree:
If you use a python tank actually drains slower cause sink is higher than floor, and the pump isnt strong enough to make up the difference
