Gravel vs crushed coral

I am starting a Cichlid tank. I plan on lake malawi cichilds. Gravel or crused coral?

because it's like a slut. It's dirty on the outside, and no matter what you do to clean it, it stays dirty. Stupid crushed coral. I'll never add that to my tanks again.

I really like the look of crushed coral but yeah its hard to keep clean
