I currently have a 125 setup and a 90 as well. Both south American, and I currently have gravel in both. Im interested in replacing it with sand but wanted to know from experience what is easier to clean along with the other positive and negatives of having sand. Let me know!

I just did my 125 in sand. I have a 55 and 46 that's gravel. After having the 125 set up for about 2 months I wish I would have one gravel.

Sand is better to clean.

You're new so try out the search function or even try google MFK threads come up a lot there because there is a billion (maybe not that muuuch) of threads on this topic :)

Sand all the way. Its much easier to clean during a wc.

To get your gravel out quickly, get a clean broom and dust pan and sweep up all the gravel. And make sure to rinse out the new sand until it rinses out clear.

Gravel is annoying as it collects dirt. Gravel works only if you have a lot of powerful jets and flow especially if you have toothy friends like the ATF. Sand all the way. Dirt stays on top. Black diamond sand, by the way.

Where can I find black diamon sand? How much more is it cost wise compared to the regular PFS

I'll be the minority here and go gravel. I just prefer the way it looks and with a gravel vac its not hard to clean from my experience. It does hide dirt whereas sand piles it up on top. I can see the sand being easier to clean once you get the hang of not sucking it up with the vac though so keep that in mind.

Ultimately I'd say just go with what you think looks best with your set up and fish. If you decide that way you wont regret it
