I'm using gravel in my tank currently with an 18" ornate, 12" delhezi and an 11" lap. Is there any issue with using a gravel bottom? The previous owner of the ornate and delhezi used gravel with them for the 3 years he had them with no issues but I've read there can be issues with them swallowing gravel.

Always a chance of gravel getting swallowed. If too big then it won’t pass thru. Sand is safer.
I'm a firm believer that polys swallow gravel and sand frequently. Which they are able to pass through their system. But it just takes one unlucky gravel/rock to cause a blockage.
There have been instances of newly purchased polys from prior gravel environment. Gets passed in to their new tank that's bare. Likely from their waste. Sand is safest and easier to clean as mentioned by others.
