gravel

I personally like a tank decorated. Try sand. Cleaning is simple but with sand, you need to stir it frequently to avoid it from getting compact. Compact pockets can lead to development of anaerobic bacteria. If disturbed, hydrogen sulfide which smells like rotten eggs is released and may harm and even kill the fish. Add Malaysian trumpet snails to aid with the stirring.

If you use sand, hover gravel vacuum cleaner a few centimeters above it and position it sideways to avoid the full force of sucking the sand. Detritus are lighter than sand and therefore will remain visible above the sand so your job is much easier than having gravel within it.

i prefer gravel with my oscars i have a 1 inch thick layer of natural gravel its nice and easy to clean and hides alot of waste you just have to remember you have to clean it and oscars love to move gravel around and make holes
