gravity and low pressure piping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry wrote a bit of that wrong there would be 1 hole on bottom of tank with a 2.5 inch bulkhead with 2.5 inch piping directly to sump on the other hole on back of tank for the return pump. But eitha way please answer my question about gravity and pressure thabks.

The question is very hard to follow, but the input of the tank from the pump would determine the output of the drain. You don't want to exceed the 4800 gph with your pump, if the input is less then the drain will be able to handle it regardless. Is that what you are looking for?

I dont have any idea what you are asking. I think you might be confused a little yourself, or you are confusing me. so I will just ramble on a little with questions.

1. If you put in the 2.5 inch hole and bulk head, are you going to run a stand pipe?
If you dont run the stand pipe, the water pressure at the bottom of the tank will be the highest it can be with gravity, and the water weight on top. If a 2.5 inch hole can flow 4800GPH low pressure, I think you will be flowing a lot more then that without a stand pipe.

2. Now if this is for a closed loop set up, how big is the tank.

3. If you are trying to see if you can use thin walled PVC pipe? I absolutly would not on any aquarium.

4. Are you asking if it is even possible for a 2.5 inch hole to flow that much water?

3. If you are trying to see if you can use thin walled PVC pipe? I absolutly would not on any aquarium.

Why not??

Because the previous owner used it in my back yard sprinkler system. I have repaired it 3 times now in different places.

Having it hanging off an aquarium, if you bump it, you run the risk of breaking it right off. It is not that I think the pressure on a gravity overflow will break it. It is just weak pipe.

If you feel confident you can plumb it without ever comming into accidental contact with it, then go for it. Just too much of a risk for me.

I was confused my self lol did not do enough research and asked a wrong question. I have now looked into other peoples sumps and I know alot more sorry for wasting your time and thankyou for trying to help.
