I noticed a lot of "baby clown knives" appearing in LFS (Both Mass, and MD) They are fully gray - NO spots.

I am thinking that there is a different species being imported AS clown knives. What are they?

SOunds like an african knife to me...of some sort... what store? tropical isle??

Not African knives.

They are identical to clown knives, but patternless. One is at Pet City in NH.
Others are in MD.

What's an AF?

And no, these are the first I have ever seen. In about 15 years, every single CK I've seen has had some pattern of some sort.

The ONLY patternless CK I've ever seen was one "gold" that I raised a long time ago.

I'm thinking that these are a very similar, but different species...

(Be it known that the WHOLE group of these are patternless. Not just a few without spots.)

I believe they are chitala lopis. I know exactly what you are talking about, as I have one... I'll tell you when he is bigger. :D I actually got 2 "clown knives" the other week, and one is a normal clown with spots, the other, however, has no spots, or stripes.

AF = Asian Knife or African Knife

I have not seen African knives in my country before so I can't comment of these. Asian ones, however, are common.

It's a Chitala Lopis. The Mekong Knife fish. They get bigger than normal Clown Knives and can be anywhere from a grey to tan color.

no trust me on this one it is a clown kinfe they generate strips and the circles on their tale as they grow they wil show up eventually

actually clowns have stripes a a VERY small size. I would say if its over 3" and has no stipes or spaots it's a Chitala Lopis
