I just went to my local petsmart and got a Ryukin with a 5" girth for $11.99 I also got a 3-3 1/2" jack dempsey for $7.99!
These are good deals right?

Do a search and see if you have a local Chiclid Association in your area. I go to swap meets and auctions when they have them. Last time I went I picked up a colony of front fry for $24.00 for 8 of them. That is unheard of. I filled my African tank (120gal) for about $50.00. Granted they were small, but that is part of the fun. Watching them grow and mature.

I'll have a friend try to sell you a piece of crap for $500. Then I'll offer you a similar piece of crap for $75. Hell of a steal right? 85% off!! It's easy to think that prices are good when comparing them to other deals. Better to look at the price on it's own. JDs at that length go for about 2 bucks at the sotre I've been to in Louisville.

A ryukin with a 5" girth is a nice size, what is the colour?

I'd be happy with paying $12 for that! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... Goldfish, like koi, can be expensive based on aesthetic value.

I bought a ranchu for $150 from a goldfish breeder/importer! May think I'm crazy, but it is a gorgeous fish and I loved him the second I saw him... I also bought a $5 Lionhead from Wal-Mart that is turning into one of the most beautiful specimens I've seen

Depends what grade they are too I sell grade A ryukins for 60 that size grade c fopr about 8-10 bux
