I found this great little LED lamp thanks to Arttyfish. I bought one to test it out for a fish-only tank I'll be setting up. It's a bright little light, so I took it to our local club meeting last night and gave it a test with our PAR meter.

This little light was giving us 35-45 PAR at a 12" height (this is the amount of light I had over my 57g rimless)!!! And the light spread was great too, PAR readings remained consistent at a good sized diameter. This would be an awesome option for those small tanks, or even 10-20g tanks. 2 of these lamps over a 10g tank would be perfect, and you could grow whatever you like!

Not bad for $30 each. 10w, 484 lumens

Looks like a GREAT option!
It has a very industrial look, which can make or break it [I like it].
I have a question for all us electrical Nooobs out here... How would you wire more than 1 of these?

So do you have to hang these like a MH? That's not really an option with my 125. Can you post pics of how you have it set up?

I was thinking about this again...
If I was to do a DIY hood with lets say 3 of these light fixtures I could wire it using home decor rocker switches. Then I would wire it like this... 1 plug and 3 switches..
If you really want to get fancy you could get 3 timer switches [$20 ea] and have the light track across the hood like the sun tracks across the sky.

It's more of a diagram than a design drawing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, my electrician skills are negligible.

^ nice! Yeah since this is a household light fixture, you could really wire it up as simple or as fancy as you like. I'm sure you could even wire them all up to one plug since the current draw is so low. But having individual plugs gives you a lot of flexibility.

Here's how I hung the light over my 57g just to test it out (they sent me the wrong color by the way). The higher you hang it, the more shimmer you get it. You could always just place it right on your lids too

I got the same light on Ebay for 27( shipping included) , I love it so far but its slightly yellowish than what I would like. It says its between 6k to 7k.

Anyways I am not sure if its OK with plants but I do love the shimmering effect of it. I have it sitting on my glass hood. I also have another one ordered waiting for it on the mail.

Doesn't come with male plug tho.

The one i got is called bright white and is pretty white. You might have gotten the one called cool white. The bright white one are in high demand now and last i asked ledwholesalers were backordered on the whiter light ones. Just call the company and check by phone first before ordering.

Only thing I dont like is that it stops at 6500. If they made one which they claimed was 6700 I would feel a little better.

Also a little pricey...I really want to do LED on my planted tank though.
