Doing a dump filter on a setup soon in the near future 180gallon or 240. What's the best bang for the buck that can handle a good amount of waste? I have a gift card for 100 so I would like to use that only and save most of my money for the tank itself.

Eco has some great pumps. So does Rio. I have a Rio 2500 pumps 790 at 0 for 40$ and the eco I have pumps 2100 for 60$

Quiet One pumps have been good for me and are pretty cheap - Petsolutions sells the QO4000 for $90 and it moves about 1000GPH.

By the way, all pumps produce heat. External pumps transfer most of the heat to the air, submersible pumps transfer all the heat to the water. A more efficient pump produces less heat per amount of water moved.

Well the pump is going in my tank to pull waste an water up to my dump filter so my tank is in the basement heat will do nothing but help keep my cichla warm :)

I would let what your needs are drive what you should buy for a pump. If you get one to under powered its not going to be beneficial. Remember the numbers people quote for GPH are all with zero head pressure. Do you know how much head pressure your going to have?

I just picked up a laguna 2000 for $119.00 shipped. Its 2000gph at zero head. I'm running it with about 5ft of head and its putting out close to 1500gph.

Yeah I need something rather high and I don't have exact measurements but its gonna be around 4ft of head pressure maybe 5 and I have taken this into consideration. It still beats 250 bucks for a canister filter though lol this is gonna be doing all the filtration for a while I will upgrade as the fish get bigger also.

Why would he buy a Laguna for 120 when he can buy a eco for less money and the same gph?

At the same head height the Eco will have less output then the laguna. Already looked at the specifcations on both at a 5ft head height (could not find the 2100 ratings So I used some of the other Ecoplus pump specs if you have a link for a eco 2100 would love to see the specs. Didnt find a eco 2100 at Kens either).

Also the Laguna will come with a 4 year warranty and it uses less electricity so it will save money over time as well. The Laguna pumps are quite proven for being quiet and very effective.
