Hello everyone,
I'm a relatively new aquarist. I've had a few aquariums/fish in the past but nothing larger than a 4" oscar... up until about 8 months ago that is. I've been interested in keeping 'native species' for quite some time.
I have been searching around for a site that discusses keeping Large Mouth Bass. I happened by chance on this site today and I'm loving it so far.
I aquired a two 2.5" bass for my 40 gallon tank at home. After a week or so, the dominant one had all but stressed the slightly smaller one to death. However the lone survivor has flourished. Within the last 8 months he shot from being 2.5" to 11". He could barely turn around in there anymore and the filter I had couldn't keep up with him or the aglae.
Just his past week I bought a big tank (6' x 2' x 18") and made the swap. I'm hoping he blooms in size again in the big tank.
Here are all the stats on my setup:
11" Large Mouth Bass
135 Gallon Aquarium
Rena XP3 canister filter
Live plants
Feed: minnows, goldfish, earthworms, crickets & misc bugs
I'm hoping to get a diatom filter soon to make sure the water stays nice and clear.
if anyone has good advice onthings like environemtn and diet, that would be great. I've been verying his diet as much as possible. I'm hoping the crawdads start soon here in the river so I can add a few at a time to the tank.
Thanks everyone!
Scott
