I'm looking for the best way to attach my stryofoam background to my epoxied plywood tank, and some stryofoam roots and branches to other parts of the styrofoam background. I'll probably be using silicone to attach the background to the tank, but I've found that it only works when I have large flat areas that are pressed together. When I've used silicone to attempt attach small, uneven pieces together it doesn't seem to hold well (poor grip on the styrofoam and poor gap filling ability).
Instead I was thinking of using Great Stuff expanding foam. It has worked pretty well for me in the past holding driftwood together in dry vivariums but I haven't used it underwater. My plan is to hold the styrofoam branches together with cocktail skewers and then GS around the joint.
Has anyone tried something like this? Do you think GS could work as an adhesive for loosely-fitting styrofoam joints that will ultimately be under water?
