Tomorrow at this time, I will have a 6" Gerrhosaurus major (Greater African Plated) lizard!
He was actually captive bred from WC parents last year, and was given out to someone. They did not care for him properly, so the breeder took him back. He has MBD, but he's recovering well from it.
He's the little guy in my avatar.
I'm really excited to get him, and the breeder (who I know from having turtles) thinks I would be the perfect person to take care of him.
He will more than likely not reach his full growth size, but he should get to be about 20".
Here is his set up.. it's a 50 breeder. To the left is a rock cave/basking area, and to the right is an anchor brand pie dish, in which was bought just for him! lol. I didn't know what to use for a water fish, and walmart didn't have the right size plastic containers.
The substrate is a mix of play sand, and eco earth cocoa dirt stuff.
I've got a 10 gallon tank full of crickets ready, some calcium powder, and a thing of dog food in the fridge. (yeah, he eats a chicken based wet food as his staple.. weird).
The lights are only temporary until I can get a mercury vapor bulb. The light on the right will be placed on wood pieces so that the light is not touching the screen top.
Once he gets bigger, he will get a larger enclosure with some lower height climbing spots, but I can't right now because of him possibly breaking bones.
What do you think?
